   Sometimes I forget that this hobby is supposed to be fun!  Since I started my obsession with helicopters a few years ago, I have continually been working on new skills -- hovering, forward flight, nose in, autorotation, etc.  In addition to that, I have been reading about helicopters, how they work, and how to fix them.  On top of that, I have been helping get new pilots started and setting up their helicopters and training.  Finally, I have also been active as an officer of the club.  I guess I have been so busy with all this "stuff"  that I forgot the reason I do this in the first place and that is to have fun.
   This past weekend I flew a new airplane I just finished assembling. That's right, an AIRPLANE!  I am sure that many of you have seen this type of plane. It's a park flyer and several other members have them -- it's the Wingo or Soarstar.  Well, I just cannot stop smiling and I am in disbelief that a 3 channel, ugly, foam, electric, slow flying model could be this much fun.   Low slow passes, ROG, barrel rolls, stall turns, hovering\kiting, touch and go's are all part of the Soarstar's bag of tricks.  Two of us were flying in formation at 6 feet off the ground around the inside of the runway.  Even the medium gusty wind conditions were no problem.  Don't get me wrong. This is no high performance model for 3D aerobatics or pattern maneuvers.  It is simple,

quiet, easy to fly, and a lot of fun. Next step maybe I'll try putting some lights on it for a little night flying. 
   Remember this month's meeting will be at Tallahassee Engraving  and Awards (see below) where our Treasurer, Sam Varn, will demonstrate his laser-cutting machine.  Unfortunately, I will miss this meeting, as I will be out of town.  We will be having our raffle as its seems to be going pretty well and gathering lots of attention.
