A Few Questions

I received the following e-mail from club member Steve Warmath. These are good questions!

Steve wrote:

I would like to respond to your request for input on the newsletter in the form of two questions.

1. I have a St. Croix Models "Vari-eze" using a .46 size engine, fully cowled. Other than the obvious need for a pusher prop, are there any other considerations regarding carburation, negative thrust bearing, or fuel feed that I should be mindful of?

2. I have a Futaba T6XA transmitter. What are the more popular, compatible, light weight, electric sized receivers and servos that I should consider for this unit?

I also think that a "Tips and Tricks" column would be really interesting for the newsletter. You guys are the experts. How about letting everyone in the club share their expertise, "Lessons Learned", etc.

Stephen Warmath

Well, I have never run a pusher, but I do not think that there are any fuel or thrust washer problems to consider. Just make sure that the clunk is at the back of the tank, even though the fuel and pressure lines will also probably exit at the rear of the tank, as well. Do not just put

the tank in backwards (so that the klunk would be at the front!) I would be more worried about cooling, but I would have to see the actual installation. As far as the receiver and servos go, I know that Fred Marks markets a line of flight packs of varying sizes. The name of his company is FMA and they advertise in the various model magazines.  If anyone  has additional input, send it to me and I'll run it in the next issue.

Closing Thoughts
Jeff Owens

Well, my offer to include some physics content in the newsletter seemed to stir up some action -- keep up the good work!
The trip to the Bahamas in our Cessna 182 went off as planned. We joined a group of about a dozen planes and flew to Vero Beach for a tour of the New Piper Aircraft plant and lunch. Then we headed out over the water. The flight was 120 miles from Vero to Freeport and went well. Clearing customs was also straightforward and then we had two days to swim, hike, and relax. The flight back went well, although we had to dodge a few cells building in the afternoon. We cleared customs at Fort Pierce and were glad that they let us back in without any problems. We then had to wait for about four hours for the afternoon thunderstorms to clear. The rest of the flight back to Tallahassee was smooth  and straightforward. All in all, it was a great experience and a relaxing weekend.

Keep sending those stories and ideas for articles!  Til next time...
