Words From The Prez Richard Wynn
Since I have not been out flying that much lately I thought I would discuss something RC related that I have spent a lot of time with lately, namely, the Internet. While I am sure many club members used the Internet for information on modeling, I would like to give the club some of my favorite haunts and tools. Before starting I would also like to mention that there is also quite a bit of misinformation, so use some caution. To give you an idea of the power of this tool, I will explain how I used the Internet to help solve a problem with my raptor (R30). I had a broken clutch shoe, which is a common problem with the R30. I believed the root of the problem was that between my clutch and clutch bell the gap was too wide --it was probably .0030 in when it should have been .0012 in maximum. This extra clearance caused the clutch shoe to flex too much and eventually break, "eventually" the last time being only two flights. I decide to get a new bell with the new clutch. From the Internet I had found the following suggestion that the stock R30 liners and bell have EXCESSIVE clearance with the clutch and to adjust the clearance you could glue in two liners and use a lathe to cut to the proper clearance. Without a lathe this was not an option. Next was a suggestion to use a business card and add a liner
